Buffer

Zones a set distance around points, lines, and polygons.

This group draws the area within a set distance of a point, line, or polygon, measured on the ellipsoid, or shrinks a polygon inward. GIS analysts, planners, and drone operators use it for setbacks, geofences, and keep-out zones. Start with the geodesic buffer. One pitfall is buffering in degrees in a GIS package: a buffer of a fixed number of degrees is narrower east to west than north to south away from the equator.
