A link budget for a drone's control or video radio: free-space path loss, received signal, and fade margin over a distance, with the transmitter's EIRP checked against the dated 2.4 GHz limit where you fly. It is for pilots planning longer flights and builders choosing radios and antennas. Start with the link budget tool. Free-space loss is the best case: terrain, trees, buildings, and the ground near the path all cut the real range, so keep a generous fade margin.
